DESCRIPTION:
This book of 999 questions and answers on Chinese tourism is a miniature encyclopedia about China for foreign tourists coming to China. The author, Professor Wang Lianyi, has taught toursim for more than 30 years at the Beijing Tourism College. Using a question and answer format, he addresses many aspects of China, including its ancient civilization, its unique folk customs, popular attraction, geographical features, climatic diversity and ecological resources. In addition, the author, wherever possible, gives a detailed account, including the origins and philosophical implications, of well-known dishes and desserts for the appreciation of gourmets and ordinary tourists. To make a China trip a pleasant experience for tourists, he offers many useful tips for touring, shopping, lodging and transportation. His humor and brevity of presentation make the book a truly delightful read.
This book poses and answers 999 tourist questions about China. There are three sections, a general one about China, followed by sections on each of the following cities: Beijing, Xi'an, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Guilin.
The questions make for interesting reading, but it's a bit much to read many of them at once. Amusingly, many of them read as propaganda/nationalism, although I doubt that was the intent.
