DESCRIPTION:

As this is a book of the One Hundred Bilingual Series, 100 sayings are chosen from the nearly 500 entries in The Analects. All of them, except five, are Confucius' sayings. In selection priority is given to those often quoted in writing and conversation, and to those that express Confucius's thought most clearly. One hundred is very small number, so reading this book can only be preliminary step towards understanding Confucius. Those interested in studying Confucius are expected to read The Analects itself and other works on his thought.

The Chinese original of the sayings and the number of the sections and sayings are based on The Analects with Translations and Annotations edited by Mr. Yang Bojun (Beijing: Zhonghua Publishing House, 1980). The compiler of this book is very thankful to Mr. Yang.
