Keep Fit the Chinese Way-Traditional Rehabilitation Therapy
Compiled by Hu Bin
English by Cai Jingfeng

Traditional Chinese medicine, after long accumulation of medical practice, has developed a unique system of medical treatment. Keep Fit the Chinese Way introduces to the general reader this unique rehabilitation medicine, including breathing exercises, traditional gymnastics for health, shadow boxing, muscle relaxation, five-animal exercises, eight-part exercise, eighteen exercises, exercises in bed, massage therapy, chiropractic, slapping, acupuncture-moxibustion, cupping and bloodletting. It has been compiled by the famous physician Hu Bin, Professor of the Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and head of the Department of Internal Medicine, Beijing Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, who has had extensive experience in rehabilitation medicine. Readers of the book will not only gain fundamental knowledge of this field, but also be able to practise the art so as to prevent and cure diseases and maintain good health.

Traditional rehabilitation therapy is a time-honoured system that uses a variety of methods, including breathing exercises, martial arts, massage, acupuncture-moxibustion, chiropractic, slapping, cupping and bloodletting. Its features are:

  • Treatment and prophylaxis of disease, restoration of health and prolongation of life. It is good for the rehabilitation of internal, surgical, gynecological and ophthalmological diseases and is especially useful in conquering diseases most detrimental to human health, such as high blood pressure, arteriosclerotic heart disease, malignancy, pulmonary tuberculosis liver cirrhosis, chronic nephritis, peptic ulcer and neurosis.
  • This rehabilitation method is also good for curing acute stages of diseases such as acute hepatitis and acute nephritis.
  • It can be used without special medical apparatus or medicament (except necessary adjuvant drugs). The patient feels no uneasiness and experiences no unpleasant reaction; instead, he is relaxed and comfortable during the treatment

Traditional rehabilitation therapy is a worthwhile therapy for clinical treatment, for maintaining good health and for achieving longevity. From his own experience, gained through years of practice, and that of others, the author did his best to present therapeutic rehabilitation methods to readers in simple, easily understood terms.
