Falling Leaves

This erhu song consists of five parts.
(1) Prelude: under the moonlight, the man who travels far away from home worries about when he can go home.
(2) Adagio: on the beach, he messes his family.
(3) Adagietto: it is more lively since the man thinks of the beauty of his homeland.
(4) Cadenza: the melody circles round the high range for he recalls the sadness of his journey.
(5) Finale: the leaves of the tall trees fall, the man hopes that he can go home as the falling leaves.

Reflection of the Moon on the Erquan Spring(Erhu)

Jiang inherits the deep, delicate, classic and carefree style of his father. He has toured to Russia, Hungary, Romania, Mongolia, Burma and the United States for performances.

The original title of the song is The Calm. It expresses the hesitation and confusion of the Chinese intellectuals during the May 4th Movement of 1919. They struggled against the feudalism and strove for an exit. Erhu instrumentalist, Zhang Qiang learned from professors Liu Beimao, Ding Dang and Lan Yusong. Zhang? artistry is brilliant. Since the fifties, he has performed for the Central People? Broadcasting Radio and premiered Young Flowe Drum, Capriccio of Sanmen Gorge and Ballad of North Henan.

Liu Tianhua is a remarkable ethnomusicologist and innovator at the May 4th Movement of China. He is good at expressing the life and pursuit of the time by new composing technique based on the traditional and local culture of music. The song was composed in 1928. It reflects the leisure life of the composer although he is sick and poor. He was uncertain about his ideal future and the anxieties made him feel uneasy.
The melody of the song is beautiful and deep. Jiang? erhu performance is skilful and rich in content.

The horse-head Fiddle is an ancient bowed string instrument of the Mongolians. It get sits name from the horse carving along its neck. It has beautiful and deep timbre. The theme of this piece is from a Mongolian folk song. The piece is divided into four sections. The first one is lento. The second diction has lively and merry mood. Free rein has given to the cadenza to express the joyous sentiments. The fourth section is the repetition of the first one.
