This piece is written in the style of Se Ne Mu, an ancient dance form at the Xinjiang area. A combination of Zhong Yuan (Central China) musical instruments and Xi Yu(Western China) tunes, it describes the carnival of minority nationalities at the beautiful Yili River and Tianshan Mountains, revealing traces of music and culture in Han and Tang Dynasty.

There was an old Chinese legend in the times from the Spring and Autumn Period(770-467BC)to the Warring States(475-221BC). It is said that there is an excellent guqin player named Yu Boya but no one can understand his music. One day, when he played, a passer-by named Zhong Ziqi appreciates his music and they became friends since then. The song praises the friends of bosom friends. Teng? performance is mellow, explicit and natural.

A Vulture Hunting the Swan

The song was originally a pipa song. The title comes from a poem written by Yang Yunfu of the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368). It shows the scene of a fierce vulture that attacks the swan with his giant wings and sharp claws.
