    This is a piece of romantic lyrical music, graceful, subtle and full of charming illsions.
  • At The Yili River
    Gu Zheng: Ying Yuan Music by Cheng Gongliang.
    Accompanied by Shou Gu player Wang Jianhua.

    This piece is written in the style of SE NE MU, an ancient dance form at the Xinjiang area. A combination of Zhong Yuan (Central China) musical instruments and Xi Yu(Western China) tunes, it describes the carnival of minority nationalities at the beautiful Yili River and Tianshan Mountains, revealing traces of music and culture in Han and Tang Dynasy.

  • The Running Water (Qinyanzai Manuscript)
    According to the Miraculous secret Notation of the Guqin(Shenqi Mipu) written by Zhu Quan in 1425, the two songs-the high Mountains (Gao Shan) and the Running Water(Liu Shui) were originally a single song. In the Tang Dynasty(618-907) (960-1279), the High Mountains was divided into four sections and the Running Water was divided into eight sections. At present, the most popular version is the one published in the Tianwen House Notation (Tianwenge Qinqu) of 1876 and was arranged by Zhang Kongshan of the Sichuan School in the Qing Dynasty(1644-1911). Zhang made use of the features of guqin to portrait the liveliness of the running water. In the selection, it adopts the nine-section version arranged by Professor Wei Zhongle in his Qinyanzai Manuscript.
  • The Ideal City

    When the composer first came to Hong Kong, he was animated by wonderful sentiments of mixing the traditional Chinese culture and the Western culture. In the song, he tries to use gaohu, a conventional Guangdong musical instrument with saxophone of jazz music for performance. In mixing these two sentiments, Hong Kong is the ideal city for you and me.
  • Love at Parting
    Composed and Erhu by Wong Hae Guzheng by Kwok Wai-sze
    When the composer writes this song, he thinks of many unforgettable feelins with some scattered memories and those answers never found. The feeling is extremely sad and lonely. He tries to use guzheng, Erhu and modern concept for expressing these feelings wholly and this is what he expects.
