  • Memories of an Old Friend
    Originally this song is a popular guqin song and said to be transmitted by Peng Qingshou, a guqin virtuoso in the end of the qing dynasty(1644-1911). In 1933, Peng travelled to the Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces and he played this song occasionally. It greatly attracted the listeners. In the past decades, it has been the most famous guqin song. But the song is more expressive in telling the feeling of missing an old friend when it is played by xiao.
  • Buddhist Chant
    (Notation of the Beijing Guqiln Society)
    It first appeared in the Chanting Notation of the Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism(Sanjiao Tongsheng Qinpu) of 1592. According to the Bo Yan’s Understanding of Guqin Playing(Bo Yan Xinfa) of the Ming Dynasty(1368-1644), “these words are the incantations of the zen master in the Pu’an Buddhist Temple and arranged for a song in the later generation.” With abundant use of chord, it created an atmosphere of solemn reverence as in a meditation room of an ancient Buddhist temple. It adopts the version of the Notation of the Beijing Guqin Society in this selection.

    When the composer writes this song, he thinks of many unforgettable feelings with some scattered memories and those answers never found. The feeling is extremely sad and lonely. He tries to use guzheng, erhu and modern concept for expressing these feelings wholly and this is what he expects.
  • The Beautiful Prairie is My Home
    Music: Alaten Aole Arrangement: Yang Qing
    After slow prelude, the flutes strike out the rising and falling melody, the tune sounds like fresh and joyous breeze, with the intervening of the stringed instruments, the music come to its climax. The Erhu plays voluble to express the theme. Green grass, color flowers are everywhere. My home if the beautiful prairie. Clear water reflects the sunset glow. Butterflies dance, birds sing merry. Scattering horses just like color clouds. Cows and sheep are like cast pearis.
