Siheyuan (traditional-style single-story houses with rows of rooms around the four sides of a courtyard) are unique buildings in Beijing. They embody the profound culture connotation of Chinese nationalities.

A typical Siheyuan is always built facing south. It consists of the northern room, the southern room as well as the eastern and western wing rooms. Here comes the name of Siheyuan. The carvings and colorful paintings of Siheyuan not only reflect the folk custom and cultural tradition but also display the people's wish for happiness, richness and good luck.

With the development of Bijing, more and more mansions have been built. At the same time, Siheyuan are disappearing quickly. A special feeling of nostalgia towards the ancient Siheyuan is lingering in many people's mind.
